EnviTrace Awarded LAPIS Grant from the U.S. Department of Energy
EnviTrace is pleased to announce that we have been awarded a LAPIS grant from the U.S. Department of Energy. This funding will accelerate development of our LAPIS capability — a set of tools and workflows that combine physics-informed models and machine learning to improve subsurface characterization and environmental outcomes.
Key aims of the LAPIS project include:
- Integrating diverse geoscience data (seismic, well logs, geochemistry, and more) into reproducible AI workflows
- Building interpretable, physics-aware models to improve reservoir and resource characterization
- Developing open tooling and datasets so practitioners and researchers can reproduce and build on our work
- Prioritizing environmental stewardship and equitable outcomes in site selection and operations
Why this matters
Accurate subsurface models reduce uncertainty, lower exploration and development risks, and help operators make better decisions that minimize environmental impact. By combining domain knowledge with modern machine learning and open data practices, LAPIS will provide faster, more transparent insights for the energy and environmental communities.
What’s next
- Project kickoff and partner coordination
- Data curation, ingestion pipelines, and baseline model development
- Public technical updates, demos, and opportunities for collaborators to test the tools
