Innovation & Responsibility at the 2025 New Mexico Technology Council Tech Summit
Attending the New Mexico Technology Council Tech Summit last week was a refreshing reminder for the EnviTrace team that innovation is not separate from the land or the communities it impacts. The event was held on Tuf Shur Tia/Sandia Pueblo recognized Native land, which added a layer of meaning that stayed with us throughout the day. Glancing down at our laptops, the “You Are On Native Land” stickers from Urban Native Era we proudly sport felt especially resonant here, subtly reminding us of the land’s Indigenous caretakers and the stories that came long before ours.
Grounding Innovation in Place
Tech summits often celebrate the latest tools and trends. This one felt different: alongside demonstrations and panels, there was an emphasis on local context, community relationships, and cultural awareness. For EnviTrace, whose work depends on deep understanding of local geology, water resources, and communities, those conversations resonated.
Recognition that we work on Native land is not a ceremonial afterthought; it changes how we think and make decisions about impact, stewardship, and collaboration. Acknowledging history invites humility: to listen before we act, to always center local knowledge alongside technical expertise, and to ensure that innovation benefits the people who live and work in the places we study, first and foremost.
Responsibility in Technology
The summit itself was energizing, bringing together innovators, founders, researchers, and technologists from across New Mexico. Conversations centered on responsible AI, cybersecurity, digital transformation, and the growing role of advanced technology in building more resilient and sustainable communities.
What EnviTrace Brings
At EnviTrace, we combine expertise in geology and engineering with physics-informed machine learning to support responsible and equitable subsurface exploration and development. That work looks like:
- Building models that quantify uncertainty so decisions are risk-aware
- Creating workflows that let domain experts interrogate model outputs, rather than accepting predictions at face-value
- Collaborating with partners, local stakeholders, liasons, and knowledge holders to ensure our project goals reflect our community priorities and environmental realities
Our objective is not to replace local knowledge or expertise, but to augment it; accelerating safe, equitable development of clean energy resources.
Thank You
We are grateful to title sponsor Mia Petersen and to the New Mexico Technology Council for hosting such a thoughtful event. We left inspired, connected, and more committed than ever to building technology that aligns with environmental responsibility and respect.
New Mexico’s tech community continues to grow, and gatherings like this ensure that innovation remains grounded in the land, history, and people that make this region so unique. We look forward to carrying that grounding into everything we build.
